A Call for Bucks
After the usual rituals, President Eddie opened the floor to Happy Dollars.
- Nicole was first with a fist full of ones for several reasons for being happy.
- Caroline was next with $2 for polio, $1 for hard working Karl and one for the upcoming visit from her brother from Montreal.
- Garrett gave a Happy Dollar in acknowledging the Friends of the Aldrich Public Library for their work on the Light Up the Library event
- George threw $2 in the basket for the Mural on Summer Street noting its beauty and durability. He also announced that he and Linda attended the Messiah with Bertil. He recently returned home from the hospital where he was treated for pneumonia, but now is doing fine. He wishes all of us well.
Listen Up Rotarians!
Keith announced that he was looking for bell ringers for Saturday, December 23rd at Lenny’s. Caroline (AKA Mrs. Claus) and Nicole volunteered immediately. It is expected that other Rotarians will volunteer in the next few days.
Caroline announced that the local Rotary Speech Contest will take place on January 23, 2024. President Eddie and Tony will attend an Interact meeting and talk about what is involved and the benefits of being a contestant.
President Eddie reported on the Vermont Youth Project which some of us heard about when we met with members of Interact at Spaulding. The project is funded by a $40,000 grant which is totally youth driven. Those involved in the project participate in the development of the budget, generate ideas as possible projects and execute the project selected.
Tony reminded us that donations to the Rotary Foundation are tax deductible as we approach the end of year. Checks should be made out to the Rotary Foundation and given or mailed to Ted.
Nicole reminded us of next week’s speaker from Good Beginnings. She also wants to make sure that dates go on the calendar for submitting applications for Community Grants and the Pie for Brunch event.
Caroline will be approaching members to ask them to serve in a role in the club’s operation as she prepares next year’s slate of officers.

Colleagues, administrators, collaborators, community members and friends gathered to be greeted by Nicole and one of her welcoming hugs. Six Barre Rotarians joined in the festivities and President Eddie and Tony added to words of praise in celebration of Nicole’s many accomplishments. The Dean of Students presented her with a painting of an on-campus pedestrian bridge representing her efforts in bringing people together to accomplish a common goal. Congratulations Nicole! Dateline: Granite Museum. World Santa Project. On December 9, 2023, Rotarians from Barre, Northfield and Central Vermont, Interact, Gen Rotary and friends met to fill and wrap boxes containing winter coats, hats and mittens/gloves for those in need. This year the group sent 211 boxes to a waiting truck to be taken to the Salvation Army for distribution. Near the conclusion of the event, President Eddie presented certificates of recognition to Ted Goulette for his work on World Santa Project and Karl Rinker for his work on the Barre Art Splash. The morning was topped with burgers and dogs by Tony and pizza courtesy of The World’s Gary Haus who has spearheaded this event for years. A great collaborative effort!
Until next time, that's all Rotarians.....
