Ace Reporter: Caroline Earle Opening Gambit A small group of Rotarians gathered today, opening the meeting with a pledge and reciting the Four Way Test. Barely had the members sat down to eat when Bob hopped up to provide a happy dollar for the extraordinary preparation and organization of Karl in organizing the roll out on Tuesday night of the 2025 Art Splash items along Main Street. This was swiftly followed by Bob’s $2 fine on Tony for deploying part of the Rotarian Green Up Day group to clean up the area around his very own business. With a smile, Tony admitted his building and surrounding area looks “great” after these efforts & paid his fine without controversy. Tony then lent his own happy dollar for the successful Tree Plenish with SHS this past Sunday, ending with planting four trees at our local Police Chief’s home. President Caroline managed to squeeze in her own happy dollars for the Art Splash, for two of her kids’ graduations this month, combined with a sad dollar for having to miss the Drop ‘n Swap due to one of those graduations. Karl then added his own happy dollars for the wonderful efforts of sponsors, artists & volunteers who made Art Splash 2025 possible. Jan added her own happy dollar because the after Art Splash drinks gathering at Tally represented the first time since HS that she had been able to hang out with boys after dark. Eddie added happy dollars for a great golf outing with his brother Mike at the Burlington Country Club, where he won $45 with his terrific score. Karl wrapped up the final happy dollars with another dollar to Eddie, who was able to swap in a local very tall and helpful sub for the Art Splash rollout. Move, Counter Move Updates were provided by Tony about the breakfast, Karl about the Art Splash, and Eddie about the Concession Stand donations. President Caroline shared the news that SHS was unable to identify any student candidates for RYLA this year. The District is asking Barre Rotary to consider sponsoring two RYLArians from the Colchester Club, as a donation. The Club voted unanimously to sponsor one candidate, by motion of Karl and seconded by Tony. Finally, President Caroline shared that our Club needs to vote to accept or reject Amanda Vincent, nominated to be DGND, and to elect an Elector, who will represent our Club for voting purposes at the District Conference business meeting. Information will be sent to all of our members, with votes to take place at our next meeting. Check Mate A fter concluding its business, members gathered for games for the remainder of the meeting. Karl, Emily, Jan & President Caroline played a game of “icebreaker” Jengo. Every piece of the Jenga tower had an ice breaker question. Suffice to say that all four members learned something new about one another! Meanwhile, at separate tables, Ted & Tony and Bob & Eddie engaged their wits and some intense math over cribbage. For one afternoon, Barre Rotarians were gamers! Drop ‘n Swap The annual Drop ‘n Swap was held on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11 for the first time at the BOR. Clothing and other wearing apparel were dropped off, sorted and placed on tables on Saturday. On Sunday, for $2, entrants were allowed to take away all the items that they could carry. All this accomplished under the superb leadership of Nicole DiDomenico and a plethora of enthusiastic volunteers; Rotarians and friends providing a valuable service to the community. “Service About Self !” Tree-Plenish For the 4th year on May 4, 2025, the Interact Club at Spaulding High School spearheaded Tree-Plenish. The goal of Tree-Plenish is to plant trees to offset Spaulding’s carbon emissions. A Tree-Plenishevent is a community tree planting event organized by students and supported by the organization Tree-Plenish. The event's goal is to replenish the environment with trees, offsetting the impact of paper consumption and other environmental issues. These events are designed to promote sustainability, raise awareness and empower students to take meaningful environmental action. hundred and ninety-four Red Maple, Eastern Redbud, and River Birch saplings were distributed and planted! Trees were planted at 15 homes and 20 trees were planted at the Wayside Restaurant ! Barre Rotarian Tony Campos offers his service as a par excellence transporter. Hats off to SHS Interact for making Barre a better place and more sustainable through their efforts! |
