Plans Finalized
During the month of August, meetings continued to focus on fundraising and service projects. (Because plans for some projects were finalized by the first meeting in September, the content of that meeting is also included in this edition of Granite Chips.)
Fundraising and Service Projects
Work on the gardens at the intersection of Hill, Ayer and Main should be completed this week. Nicole spearheaded this effort with help from Joe Shadroui, John and Lynn Steinman, Eddie Rousse and Karl Rinker. Having been weeded and mulched, perennials are now being planted thanks to donations of plants and cash from several individuals. Signs will be placed at the site identifying it as a Barre Rotary Club community project.
Caroline continued her work on the Drive-In Movie event: securing permission from the Barre City to use the BOR parking lot; obtaining a projector and an FM sound system; determining, with Loren’s help, which movies can be shown, testing equipment; working out operational kinks; and working out logistics for providing and delivering concession items. The first event will took place on Sunday, September 6th featuring Breakfast at Tiffany's. The event is free, but the profits from selling concession items will go into our coffers from this fundraiser.
Karl reported on the progress of Barre's Art Splash throughout the month including securing sponsors for the molds of cats, dogs and cars. Packets have been assembled and ten have been sold. The goal is to sell twenty-five this year. Ted and Karl will travel to Catskill, N.Y. in September to attend the auction of the sculptures which have been on display this summer.
Plans continue to hold a pick-up barbeque together with the annual Norwich University clothing drive. Tony is heading up this effort which is scheduled for sometime in October. Nicole is coordinating efforts at Norwich.

Announcements
Nicole announced that she, Bruce and I will be conducting a series of visioning exercises with the aim of developing a vision statement and a strategic plan for Barre Rotary. She also announced that Dr. Mark Anarumo, the new president of Norwich University, will be making a presentation via Zoom on a joint Rotary/Chamber of Commerce peace project in Kyrgyzstan on Monday, September 14th from 12-1:30 p.m. Col.
